Checking the VANOS adjuster of cylinder bank 1

Check 

• Check the lock of intake adjuster and exhaust camshaft adjuster.
• Position the open-end wrench (1) on the hexagon of the camshafts.
• Move the open-end wrench back and forth a little in the arrow direction.

  The camshafts must be connected with the VANOS adjusters (2) with frictional connections.

Result 

» Camshafts are connected to the VANOS adjusters (2) with frictional connections.

Measure

• Continue the repair with the next step.

Result 

» If there is no frictional connection, the relevant adjuster must be replaced.

Measure

• Replace the affected VANOS adjuster.

Measure

• Check timing again.
