13 53... Clean the cylinder head in the area of the injectors with sandy/dusty contamination
Special tools required:
- 2 302 630
Required tools:
- Standard vacuum with narrow/pointy nozzle
During dusty/sandy operating conditions, dust and sand get lodged in columns, joints and cavities on the cylinder head at area of injectors. If ignored, the result is malfunctions, damage and early wear/failure of the engine!
Preliminary work needed:
- Remove the hold-down device of the injectors or rail
Remove screw (1).
Remove the hold-down device (2).
Unlock and disconnect plugs (1).
Release screws M6x70 (arrows).
Remove rail (2) upwards.
Protect/seal all the exposed openings/connections against access by foreign bodies/contamination! Close all windows and doors on the vehicle. If applicable, also mind other vehicles and persons in the immediate surrounding area.
Wear safety goggles.
Dirt particles may get into your eyes!
Using a vacuum cleaner and compressed air (air gun with nozzle), thoroughly suction/blow out any present contaminations in the area of the injectors.
Remove the spark plug on the affected cylinder according to the repair instructions.
Rotate the crankshaft on the central bolt in direction of rotation and set the piston to firing TDC. If applicable, use the TDC finder from the pressure loss testing device 81 39 2 302 630.
Risk of damage - Do not crank the crankshaft in reverse direction!
- Screw the hose of the pressure loss testing device into the spark plug bore and connect it to the pressure loss testing device.
- Adjust the pressure loss testing device to a low pressure and connect it to compressed air.
- Turn on the vacuum and keep it ready.
- Pull the injector out of the injector bore hole according to the repair instructions and immediately suction the dust/dirt so that it does not get into the combustion chamber. Refer to 13 53 INJECTOR NOZZLES AND LINES
- Only deactivate the compressed air once all contaminations have been removed from the injector bore hole in the cylinder head
- Prepare the injector according to the repair instructions and insert the cylinder head. Refer to 13 53 INJECTOR NOZZLES AND LINES
- Install the spark plug according to the repair instructions. Refer to 12 12 IGNITION WIRE, SPARK PLUGS
Make sure no contaminations have gotten into other openings/bores, clean if applicable.
