If installed: Checking the gas pressure springs for hood (only for variants with active pedestrian protection (SA8TF))

NOTE: TECHNICAL INFORMATION
For vehicles with active pedestrian protection (SA8TF), both gas-filled shock absorbers of the hood must be regularly replaced as part of preventive maintenance.
With some gas-filled shock absorbers, the expiration date is printed on. For all others, only the production date is printed on.
Regardless of the printing, both gas-filled shock absorbers of the hood must be regularly replaced as part of preventive maintenance.

Check the imprint on the gas pressure springs for hood.
If necessary note the expiration date (1).
If necessary note the production date (days/year) (2).

Desired state

The two gas pressure springs must not have an expiration date before the next brake fluid service (24 months).

Result

» The expiration date (1) of the gas pressure springs is before the next brake fluid service (24 months).

Measure

Replace both gas pressure springs.

Result

» Production date (days/year) (2) of the gas pressure springs + 5 years is before the next brake fluid service (24 months).

Measure

Replace both gas pressure springs.
