For vehicles with active pedestrian protection (SA8TF), both gas-filled shock absorbers of the hood must be regularly replaced as part of preventive maintenance.
With some gas-filled shock absorbers, the expiration date is printed on. For all others, only the production date is printed on.
Regardless of the printing, both gas-filled shock absorbers of the hood must be regularly replaced as part of preventive maintenance.
- Check the imprint on the gas pressure springs for hood.
- If necessary note the expiration date (1).
- If necessary note the production date (days/year) (2).
Desired state
- The two gas pressure springs must not have an expiration date before the next brake fluid service (24 months).
Result
» The expiration date (1) of the gas pressure springs is before the next brake fluid service (24 months).
Measure
- Replace both gas pressure springs.
Result
» Production date (days/year) (2) of the gas pressure springs + 5 years is before the next brake fluid service (24 months).
