Installing the steering wheel (M Sport steering wheel)

Check the neutral position of the coil spring 

Check 

• Version A: 

  Check the mark (1) on the coil spring in the inspection glass (2).

Result 

» The mark (1) on the coil spring is not visible.

Measure

• Turn the coil spring cassette until the mark (1) on the coil spring visible in the inspection glass (2).

Check 

• Version B: 

  Check the mark (1) on the coil spring in the inspection glass (2).

Result 

» The mark (1) on the coil spring is not visible.

Measure

• Turn the coil spring cassette until the mark (1) on the coil spring visible in the inspection glass (2).

• Align mark (1) on steering wheel to mark (2) on steering column.
• Position the steering wheel.

Check 

• Possibly, a microencapsulated screw (1) has been installed.
• Check the screw connection.

  Result 

  » The screw (1) is micro-encapsulated.

  Measure

  • Clean thread in steering column.

    Replace the screw (1).

    Parts:  Screw

• Tighten down screw (1).

M14 Only with microencapsulated screw: Replace screw.	Tightening torque	62.5 Nm

Follow-up work 

• Install the steering wheel COVER .
• If installed: install the VIBRATION ACTUATOR (M sport steering wheel).
• Install the WIRING HARNESS (M Sport steering wheel).
• Install the M leather steering wheel DECORATIVE TRIM (SA710).
• If installed: install the automatic transmission SHIFT PADDLE .
• Install the M sports steering wheel AIRBAG UNIT .
• Reconnect all battery GROUND LEADS .
• ACTIVATE the 48 v electrical system.
