31 10 001 Completely removing and installing front axle with engine and transmission (530i 2017-2022, 530i xDrive 2017-2022, 530e PHEV 2018-2022, 530e xDrive PHEV 2018-2022)
Special tools required:
- 32 1 270
Recycling:
Catch and dispose of leakage fuel with auxiliary materials.
Observe country-specific waste disposal regulations.
Important:
Seal openings or lines on air conditioning with special tool 32 1 270 to prevent leakage of media and contamination.
Be sure to observe the REPAIR NOTES FOR REPLACING THE ENGINE .
Preliminary work needed:
Engine compartment:
- Place hood in service position
- Disconnecting the battery ground lead
- Suction the air conditioning
- Draining coolant
- Removing intake silencer housing
- Removing resonator
- Removing clean air pipe
- Undoing all coolant hoses on the coolant radiator
- Undoing coolant hoses on the expansion tank
- Undoing coolant hoses on the auxiliary coolant pump for the heating
- Undoing plug connection from the auxiliary coolant pump for the exhaust turbocharger
- Undoing coolant hoses on the auxiliary coolant pump for the exhaust turbocharger
- Undoing coolant hose on relay valve
- Removing control units (DME)
- Disconnecting fuel supply and return line
- Release vacuum line on the brake booster
- Undoing positive wires on power distribution
- Remove condenser
- Removing refrigerant line on connecting piece
- Release transmission oil line on the transmission oil cooler
Vehicle underbody:
- Removing underbody protection at front, center, and rear
- Removing thrust field (all-wheel drive vehicle)
- Detach the wiring harness of the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) from the front subframe
- Remove the wheel arch cover on the front left and bottom right
- Releasing cable from vertical acceleration sensor on left and right
- Remove universal joint
- Detach the top left and right wishbone from the swivel bearing
- Releasing the right and left spring strut holder from the bottom wishbone
- Release anti-roll bar from the anti-roll bar link on the left and right
- Remove prop shaft
- Release both brake calipers and tying up
- Remove both covers for steering assembly
- Release cable from wheel speed sensor on the left and right
- Release ground strap on transmission
Prepare mobile table lift:

Mounts on the table top A:
Position mounting elements (1) with the mounts (50) at the coordinates 7/1 and 7/8.
Position mounting elements (2) with the mounts (80) at the coordinates 2/2 and 2/7.
Position mount of the swivel bearing (3) at the coordinates 3/1 and 4/8.
Prepare mobile table lift:
Mounts on the table top B:
Position mounting elements (1) with the mounts (60) at the coordinates 1/3 and 3/7.
Position mounting element (2) with the mount (80) at coordinates 5/4.
Adjust the inclination of the lifting table (1) with the adjustment screw (2) until the bubble level of the lifting table (1) displays the correct position.
Check payload of vehicle, empty if necessary.
Load front footwell with sandbags if necessary, approx. 100 kg.
Note safety instructions of TABLE LIFT .
Position mounting elements (1) with the mounts (50) at the front subframe.
Position mounting elements (1) with the mounts (80) at the front subframe.
Position mount of the swivel bearing (1) at the swivel bearing.
Tighten down screws (2).
Position mounting elements (1) with the mounts (80) at the automatic transmission.
Position mounting elements (1) with the mounts (60) at the automatic transmission.
Position mounting elements (1) with the mounts (60) at the automatic transmission.
- Disassemble the front axle support
- Detach transmission cross member
- Drain lifting table slowly and ensure free movement of all components
