Replacing upper main bearing shell (collar bearing)
- Use the tool (1) to release the upper main bearing shell.NOTE: The tool (1) is included in the scope of delivery of the main bearing shell.
- Insert the tool (1) into the oil hole (arrow) on the crankshaft.NOTE: RISK OF DAMAGE
Damage to the engine.
If the engine is manually rotated in the wrong direction of rotation, the engine can be damaged.- Only rotate the engine manually in the correct direction of rotation: a) clockwise when looking at the damper, or b) counterclockwise when looking at the chain drive. b) applies only if the timing chain is installed in the rear.
- Turn the crankshaft in the direction of engine rotation.
- Turn the crankshaft until the main bearing shell (1) can be removed from the bearing seat.
- Remove the main bearing shell (1).
- Turn the crankshaft further in the direction of engine rotation until the new main bearing shell can be placed on the crankshaft.
- Oil the main bearing shell (1), bearing seat and crankshaft (3) with motor oil.
- Position the main bearing shell (1) on the bearing seat.
Ensure that the installation position of the guide lug is correct.
- Turn the crankshaft (3) further against the direction of engine rotation until the main bearing shell (1) has been fully inserted with the tool (2) into the bearing seat.
