SERVICE INFORMATION

This Service Information Bulletin (Revision 5) replaces SI B51 30 16 dated March 2020.

SITUATION

There are two possible situations: 

CAUSE

There are two possible corrections: 

PROCEDURE

  1. Alert the customer of accidentally pressing the trunk/tailgate button on the key fob.
  2. Inspect the vehicles 12 V socket and the USB socket for any un-approved BMW cables, adapters, and/or devices. Recommended that cables, adapters, and/or devices be removed. Inform the customer of the facts outlined in the cause section.
  3. Inform the customer about the two-button logic conversion.
  4. Connect the vehicle to ISTA and perform the conversion opening of tailgate only possible after unlocking.
    NOTE: Always connect a BMW approved battery charger/power supply (SI B04 23 10 ).
  5. After the conversion is completed, explain to the customer that the two-button logic is only active once the setting for the trunk/tailgate is set in the Head Unit.
  6. Explain to the customer how the two-button logic function operates.
    1. First press the unlock button on the key fob.
    2. Then press the trunk/tailgate button on the key fob.
    3. The trunk/tailgate no longer can be opened unless the vehicle is first unlocked.
NOTE: Opening the trunk/tailgate using the interior button or smart opener is always possible.
