TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN

Reference Number(s): SI B66 19 17, Date of Issue:  November 01, 2017
BMW: G30 (5 Series Sedan); G12 (7 Series Sedan)

SERVICE INFORMATION

NOTE: Please perform the procedure outlined in this Service Information on all affected vehicles before customer delivery. In the event the customer has already taken delivery of the vehicle, please perform the procedure the next time the vehicle is in the shop.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

This Service Action involves G12 (7 Series Sedan) and G30 (5 Series Sedan) produced from May 5, 2017 to May 30, 2017.

Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as "Open" when checked either in AIR, the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the Key Reader.

SITUATION

The Lane Change Warning sensor may have been produced with faulty components. This may lead to a failure of the Lane Change Warning system (SWW).

CAUSE

Lane Change Warning sensor hardware defect

CORRECTION

Check the Lane Change Warning sensor(s) and replace, if required.

Reprogram the vehicle with ISTA 4.08.21 (I-level 17-11-520) or more recent version.

PROCEDURE

For conditions that are similar to the situation described:

  1. Perform a vehicle test using ISTA 4.08.21 or higher.
  2. If no relevant fault code is set in the SWW, the vehicle is ok and no further steps required.
  3. If fault code S0742 is set in SWW, perform the linked test plan(s).
  4. If the test plan results in sensor(s) replacement, replace the sensor(s) recommended by the test plan.
  5. Based on the sensor requiring replacement, refer to the following repair instructions:
    1. REP 66 32 110 - Removing and installing the front left lane change warning sensor
    2. REP 66 32 120 - Removing and installing the front right lane change warning sensor
    3. REP 66 32 140 - Removing and installing the rear left lane change warning sensor
    4. REP 66 32 150 - Removing and installing the rear right lane change warning sensor
  6. Program the vehicle using ISTA 4.08.21 or a more recent version.
  7. If recommended by ISTA 4.08.21 after programming, perform another vehicle test and delete the fault code entry.

Note that ISTA 4 will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.

Always connect a BMW-approved battery charger/power supply ( SI B04 23 10  ).

For information on programming and coding with ISTA 4, refer to CenterNet / TIS / Technical Documentation / Diagnostics and Programming / Programming Documentation.
