SITUATION

Driver is alerted to presence of obstacles in vehicle path of movement when there are none.

Erroneous alerts may occur for the front or the rear of vehicle.

Behavior causes malfunction of automatic parking procedure.

CAUSE

Rubber grommet around Parking Distance Control (PDC) sensors are improperly installed.

CORRECTION

Remove and reinstall sensor correctly.

PROCEDURE

For conditions that are similar to the situation described:

Inspect all PDC sensors (both front and rear).

Do any sensors appear to have rubber grommets incorrectly installed as shown above in the photo? 

YES -  remove any improperly installed sensor(s) and reinstall making sure the grommet is completely around the entire circumference of the sensor. Refer to REPs listed below for accessing specific sensor(s).

Repair instruction for removing and reinstalling PDC sensors:

NO -  continue diagnosis with ISTA

66 20 000 3 FRU Work time to visually inspect all PDC sensors (both front and rear) (Main work)
Or:    
66 20 000 2 FRU Work time to visually inspect all PDC sensors (both front and rear) (Plus work - Vehicle is already in the workshop)

For work time labor operation code 62 20 000 above, since the "work time" FRU allowance to be claimed is specified, a separate punch time is not required.

Claim the diagnosis above, one-time, with a repair below as applicable:

Front Sensors

66 20 515 Refer to KSD2 Removing and installing/replacing one ultrasonic sensor at the front left  (after visual inspection)

Or:    
66 20 517 Refer to KSD2 Removing and installing/replacing one ultrasonic sensor at the front, center, left (after visual inspection)
Or:    
66 20 519 Refer to KSD2 Removing and installing/replacing one ultrasonic sensor at the front, center, right  (after visual inspection)
Or:    
66 20 530 Refer to KSD2 Removing and installing/replacing all ultrasonic sensors at the front (after visual inspection)
