SITUATION
During a visual inspection, the mechanical water pump appears to be leaking.
Some of the water pumps returned to the WPRC, after analysis, have shown to be not leaking/defective.
CAUSE
- Deposits or contamination is visible on the water pump, but there is no active leak.
Or the:
- Coolant pump is actively leaking.
CORRECTION
Follow the Procedure to determine if the mechanical water pump is defective.
PROCEDURE
If the weep hole on the pump is unobstructed, or shows a small amount of sweating (1); the pump is not defective.
There is no defect with the water pump if the cap (2) isn't seated properly. The cap can be pressed back into place to reseat it.
The pump is defective if there is an active leak coming from the weep hole (1), or there is a considerable amount of dried coolant covering the weep hole (2):

Repair Code 1151074800: (Main) mechanical coolant pump (incl. holder) Leaking
Together with the flat rate labor operation codes and flat rate unit (FRU) allowances in AIR (including the diagnosis that applies*).
Check the cooling system for water tightness with the special tool

Removing and installing/replacing the coolant pump

Only one Main labor operation code can be claimed per repair visit.
