SITUATION

Distribution of the following tool will be through the Automatic Tool Shipment Program.

EMERGENCY AXLE RELEASE TOOL 

BMW P/N: 83 30 5 A7F D24

BMW Price: $291

Model(s): All models with drive axles secured with a bolt.

Application: For emergency release of the automatic transmission via wheel hub.

In the current series of vehicles, there is no option of performing an automatic transmission emergency release. In this case, a new special tool is required that can be used to temporarily separate the connection between the wheel and the output shaft so that the vehicle can be pushed/rolled for a short time (e.g. vehicle transfer on/off a recovery vehicle, in/out of the workshop).

IMPORTANT: NEVER leave the vehicle with the drive axle released either unattended or unsecured. Secure it in some other manner - i.e. hooked/cabled, wheel chocks, strapped to flat bed, raised on lift, etc. ALWAYS re-engage the drive axle once rolling/transfer is complete.
