SERVICE INFORMATION
This Service Information Bulletin (Revision 1) replaces SI B61 05 20 dated February 2020.
What's New (Specific text highlighted):
- Procedure: F39, F48 Target I-level
SITUATION
A yellow CCM (Check Control Message) ID 415 is displayed-
- "Increased battery drain! //Battery. Electrostatic discharge at standstill/start engine. Energy management"
The results of the Energy Diagnosis test plan identifies the Controller as the root cause of the CCM.
CAUSE
The Controller delays the vehicle going to sleep by up to 6 minutes. In some cases, this will cause the CCM 415 to be displayed when starting the vehicle.
Replacing the Controller in this case will not correct this situation.
CORRECTION
Carry out diagnosis with ISTA and run the Energy Diagnosis test plan. If the Controller is identified as the root cause of the CCM in the results, program the vehicle if the I-level is lower than 19-11-530.
PROCEDURE
- Is CCM 415 displayed in the vehicle or read out during the key read?
Yes: Proceed to the next step.
No: This SI B does not apply. Continue with standard diagnosis.
- Perform Energy Diagnosis. Does Energy Diagnosis results indicate that the Controller is the cause of the CCM?
Yes: Proceed to next step.
No: This SI B does not apply. Continue with standard diagnosis.
- Is the I-level of the vehicle lower than the target I-level listed below?
Yes: Program the vehicle using the latest ISTA version.
No: This SI B does not apply. Continue with standard diagnosis
| Model | Target integration level |
|---|---|
| F22, F23, F31, F32, F33, F34, F36, F82, F83, F87 | F020-19-11-530 or higher |
| G01, G02, F97, F98, G30, F90, G32, G12 | S15A-19-11-530 or higher |
| F39, F48 | F056-19-11-550 or higher |
| I01, I12, I15 | I001-19-11-530 or higher |
Note that ISTA will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.
Always connect a BMW-approved battery charger/power supply (SI B04 23 10 ) when performing programming.
For information on programming and coding with ISTA, refer to CenterNet/TIS/Technical Documentation/Programming and Diagnostics/Programming Documentation.
WARRANTY INFORMATION
Covered under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty for Passenger Cars and Light Trucks or the BMW Certified Pre-Owned Program.

Programming and Encoding - Vehicle Control Units (RO and Claim Comments Required)
The programming procedure automatically reprograms and encodes all vehicle control modules which do not have the latest software I-level. If one or more control module failures occur during this programming procedure:
- Please claim this consequential control module-related repair work (including performing the IRAP Control Unit Recovery procedure first as required, refer to the SIB in AIR) under the defect code listed in this bulletin with the applicable AIR labor operations.
Please explain this additional work (The why and what) on the repair order and in the claim comments section
For control module failures that occurred prior to performing this programming procedure:
- When covered under an applicable limited warranty, claim the applicable test plan and the corresponding control module-related repair work using the applicable defect code and labor operations in AIR (including diagnosis with separate punch times).
Other Repairs
If other eligible and covered work is performed as a result of performing the ISTA diagnostics and related test plans, claim this work with the applicable defect code and the labor operations that are listed in AIR (including diagnosis with separate punch times).
