SITUATION
There are two possible situations:
- Trunk/tailgate may open while vehicle is locked
- Trunk/tailgate may open while the vehicle is in motion, usually after coming to a stop, such as a traffic light etc.
CAUSE
There are two possible causes:
- The trunk/tailgate button on the key fob may have been accidentally pressed, thus opening the trunk/tailgate
- Any cables, adapters, and/or devices not BMW approved that are plugged into the 12 V power socket and/or USB socket could cause this fault
CORRECTION
There are two possible corrections:
- Inspect the vehicles 12 V socket and the USB socket for any un-approved BMW cables, adapters, and/or devices
- Perform a two-button logic conversion via ISTA
PROCEDURE
- Alert the customer of accidentally pressing the trunk/tailgate button on the key fob.
- Inspect the vehicles 12 V socket and the USB socket for any un-approved BMW cables, adapters, and/or devices. Recommended that cables, adapters, and/or devices be removed. Inform the customer of the facts outlined in the cause section.
- Inform the customer about the two-button logic conversion.
- Connect the vehicle to ISTA and perform the conversion opening of tailgate only possible after unlocking.NOTE: Always connect a BMW approved battery charger/power supply (SI B04 23 10 ).
- After the conversion is completed, explain to the customer that the two-button logic is only active once the setting for the trunk/tailgate is set in the Head Unit.
- Explain to the customer how the two-button logic function operates.
- First press the unlock button on the key fob.
- Then press the trunk/tailgate button on the key fob.
- The trunk/tailgate no longer can be opened unless the vehicle is first unlocked.
NOTE:
Opening the trunk/tailgate using the interior button or smart opener is always possible.
