A-PILLAR WIND NOISE

TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN

SITUATION

At vehicle speeds above 60 mph, wind noise is heard from the vicinity of the A-pillar.

CAUSE

Excessive gap between the roof trim strip and the A-pillar.

CORRECTION

Reinstallation of roof trim strip with new mounting clips.

PROCEDURE

For conditions that are similar to the situation described:

Test drive the vehicle to reproduce situation.
Was noise able to be reproduced?

YES- go to Step 2.

NO - continue standard diagnosis
Obtain adhesive tape and place over the gap on the affected side and test again.
Did noise go away?

YES- go to Step 3.

NO - continue standard diagnosis.
Remove and reinstall left and/or right roof trim strip according to REP 51 13 280 "Removing and installing trim strip on roof frame, left or right", replacing mounting clips as needed (2).
Test drive to verify noise has been eliminated.

If you are using a Main labor code for another repair, use the Plus code labor operation 51 13 781 instead of 51 13 281.

Refer to KSD2/AIR for the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowances.

Work time labor operation code 51 99 000 is not considered a Main labor operation. Also, since the "work time" FRU allowance to be claimed is specified, a separate punch time is not required.
