UNEVEN AIR DISTRIBUTION FROM CENTER VENTS

SITUATION

A/C cooling and/or air flow is insufficient
Air flow is unevenly distributed between outlets of the center fresh-air grille.

CAUSE

Unfamiliarity with current system and its controls.
Air duct foam is out of position on both sides of the center fresh-air grille.

CORRECTION

The IHKA (Integrated Automatic Heating and Air-conditioning) system for G30 has new functions compared to the previous F10 (5 Series). Refer to TRI B64 04 17 for information on how to maximize the air conditioning performance.

Remove the foam from both sides of the center vent fresh-air duct.

PROCEDURE

For complaints that the air flow is unevenly distributed between outlets of the center ventilation grille follow the below steps:

Remove the side cover.
Remove decorative strip on right dashboard refer to ISTA 51 45 380 "Removing and installing decorative strip on right dashboard"
After the trim is removed, check the center vent for the foam location. You can feel it when put your hand inside.

Remove, by hand, the foam parts from the duct on both sides (surface of the foam is smooth to the touch). If they tear, under the use of moderate force, be certain to remove the entire foam piece.

NOTE: Excessive force used in the removal of the foam air duct liners may cause misalignment or displacement of the air ducts in the instrument panel. Care should be exercised to eliminate this possibility.

Reassemble any removed trim pieces.
Recheck operation after modification.

If you are using a Main labor code for another repair, use the Plus code labor operation 51 45 880 instead of 51 45 380.

Refer to KSD2/AIR for the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowances.

Work time labor operation code 64 99 000 is not considered a Main labor operation. Also, since the "work time" FRU allowance to be claimed is specified, a separate punch time is not required.
