SERVICE INFORMATION
Please perform the procedure outlined in this Service Information on all affected vehicles before customer delivery. In the event the customer has already taken delivery of the vehicle, please perform the procedure the next time the vehicle is in the shop.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves 5 Series, 7 Series and M5 vehicles produced from April 2018 through May 2018.
Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as "Open" when checked either in AIR, the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the Key Reader.
SITUATION
A gap in the roof-mounted aerial adhesive could cause water to leak into the vehicle interior.
CAUSE
During production the roof-mounted aerial was not sealed correctly.
CORRECTION
Reseal the roof-mounted aerial.
INFORMATION
Remove the empty-roof mounted aerial housing
Remove and reinstall the roof-mounted aerial housing, as described in 'REP 65 20 030 R&I roof-mounted aerial' below.
- Clean the roof (2).
- Mask the roof (2) around the empty roof-mounted aerial housing (3) using yellow plastic adhesive tape (1). Slide the plastic adhesive slightly under the empty roof-mounted aerial housing (3).
- Cut the adhesive bead and remove the empty roof-mounted aerial housing (3).
Installing the roof-mounted aerial housing
- Check centering pins (1) for damage.
- The bonding surface (2) must be clean and free from grease.
- Apply trace of adhesive bead all around outer contour as follows.
- Distance between adhesive bead and edge of aerial housing:
- A = 6.5 mm +/- 1 mm
- The start and end of the bead must overlap by a maximum of 10 mm
- To prevent the adhesive from leaking, the adhesive bead diameter must not exceed 2.5 mm to 3.5 mm
- Attach the empty housing coated with adhesive by hand. To spread the adhesive better, move the housing back and forth horizontally slightly when pressing down.
- Secure empty housing if necessary with adhesive tape and press down uniformly.
- After bonding, leaving vehicle to stand for at least 3 hours at room temperature.
