TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN

Reference Number(s): SI B01 10 21, Date of Issue:  October 08, 2021
BMW: All Models

SERVICE INFORMATION

This Service Information bulletin (Revision 01) replaces SI B01 10 21 dated June 2021

What's New:

SITUATION

During the vehicle's operational life, normal engine oil seepage or sweating, in addition to accumulated road dust, dirt and grime in the engine compartment can give an appearance that there is an active engine oil leak.

This is further exaggerated by residual oil that remains on the engine assembly after maintenance services are performed, for example, oil filter changes, engine oil top-offs, etc.

If this visual appearance of accumulated oil on the engine assembly is misinterpreted as an active engine oil leak, then unnecessary gasket repairs/replacements will result.

CAUSE

The purpose of this bulletin is to provide your workshop with the information and a procedure to help you in identifying those engine oil leaks  that do  require a repair, versus minor engine oil seepage,  which does not  require a repair to be performed.

CORRECTION

Follow the instructions in the PROCEDURE section.

PROCEDURE

Refer to Attachment 1

PARTS INFORMATION

When a repair is necessary, please refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETK/EPC), using the customer's VIN to locate the applicable replacement part numbers.
