TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN

Reference Number(s): SI B00 08 20, Date of Issue:  May 15, 2020
BMW: All Models

SITUATION

Vehicles may have not been started up or driven for an unusually long time:

CAUSE

Federally and State mandated "stay at home" directives as a result of the contagious Corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

CORRECTION

In preparation for resuming normal driving, BMW has consulted with various technical experts and developed a checklist (refer to Procedure section) as a guideline to possible inspections that could be performed. The BMW center should consider the individual circumstances of the customer and the vehicle to determine which ones are applicable.

This document is intended to be used as a guideline. Some checklist operations can be performed off-site (aka remotely; i.e., at customer's residence). Afterwards it is advisable to schedule the vehicle for your Service Department to take advantage of full workshop facilities and diagnostic tools.

Prior to leaving your center for a vehicle to be checked off-site, refer to ISPA Next for open campaigns so that the customer can schedule a repair visit at an authorized BMW center. This resource will also show if a time-based Maintenance requirement is upcoming.
