SERVICE INFORMATION

Please perform the procedure outlined in this Service Information on all affected vehicles before customer delivery. In the event the customer has already taken delivery of the vehicle, please perform the procedure the next time the vehicle is in the shop.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

This Service Action involves G12 (740i, 740e iPerformance, 750i, M760i) and G30 (530i, 530e iPerformance, 540i, M550i) produced from June 13th to July 18th 2017

Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as "Open" when checked either in AIR, the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the Key Reader.

SITUATION

After the engine start-up, gear (Drive or Reverse) cannot be selected. Message "No drive position change possible" is displayed in the CC display.

Gear can be selected only after vehicle goes through the sleep cycle.

CAUSE

Unfavorable GWS gear shifter software

CORRECTION

Update the GWS software

PROCEDURE

Program the vehicle using ISTA Next 4.06.3x  or higher.

Model Target Integration level
G12, G30 S15A-17-07-502 or higher 

Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.

Always connect a BMW approved battery charger/power supply  (SI B04 23 10  ).

WARRANTY INFORMATION

This Service Action repair does not  qualifies for Alternative Mobility Solution (AMS) expense reimbursement.

Reimbursement for this Service Action will be via normal claim entry utilizing the following information:

Completion "before" vehicle delivery to the customer or the vehicle is already in the workshop

Labor Operation: Labor Allowance: Description:
00 65 717 1 FRU Programming and coding was performed previously in conjunction with another campaign or repair (vehicle is already at the specified "Target" integration level or higher, no repair is necessary) (Plus work)
Or:
00 65 716(1) 8 FRU Programming and coding (includes connecting an approved battery charger/power supply and performing a vehicle test) (Plus work)
(1) For the 530e iPerformance and 740e iPerformance vehicles, recharging the high-voltage battery unit (to high voltage charging socket) is also included.

Labor Operation: Labor Allowance: Description:
00 65 152 1 FRU Programming and coding was performed previously in conjunction with another campaign or repair (vehicle is already at the specified "Target" integration level or higher, no repair is necessary) (Main work)

00 65 151(1) 10 FRU Programming and coding (includes connecting an approved battery charger/power supply and performing a vehicle test) (Main work)
(1) For the 530e iPerformance and 740e iPerformance vehicles, recharging the high-voltage battery unit (to high voltage charging socket) is also included.

Vehicle Programming and Coding

When ISTA/P automatically reprograms and codes all the vehicle's control modules that "currently do not have" the latest software and if one or more control module failures occur "during" this programming procedure:

  • Please claim this "consequential" control module-related repair work under the defect code listed in this bulletin with the applicable KSD2/AIR labor operations.

Control module failures that occurred "prior" to performing this programming procedure:

  • When "covered" under an applicable limited warranty, claim this control module-related repair work using the applicable defect code and labor operations in KSD2/AIR.
