Removing the electrical steering column
NOTE:
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
The bottom steering shaft and the steering column are not encoded in relation to each other. Always mark the positioning of the steering shaft in relation to the steering column for removals, installations and replacements. Non-compliance will lead to inclination of the steering wheel.
The bottom steering shaft and the steering column are not encoded in relation to each other. Always mark the positioning of the steering shaft in relation to the steering column for removals, installations and replacements. Non-compliance will lead to inclination of the steering wheel.
- Mark positioning of the bottom of the steering shaft (1) in relation to the steering column.
- Loosen the clamping bolt (1).
- Pull down the bottom steering shaft (2) from steering column a little.
In order to release the steering shaft from the steering column, the steering column must be released from the support of the dashboard.
- Loosen the nuts (1) on the steering column using a 1/4" reversible ratchet, extension, joint and size 13 hex socket from the footwell.NOTE: TECHNICAL INFORMATION Secure component against falling.
- Loosen nuts (1).
- Release the steering column (2) from the support of the dashboard and pull out from bottom steering shaft (3).NOTE: To provide a better overview: Schematic diagram with partially hidden components.
- Disconnect cable (1) from the steering column.
- Unlock and disconnect plug connections (2).NOTE: To reach the plug connections (2), shift the steering column downward in driving direction.
- Carefully guide the steering column out toward the top and remove it.
