What's New:
- Warranty information updated
MODEL
Affected motor vehicle equipment:
- SA521 = Rain Sensor
- SA534 = Integrated automatic heating/air conditioning system
- SA610 = Head-Up Display
SITUATION
- Oil leaking from the Rain/Light Sensor (RLS).
CAUSE
The oil that serves as the separation medium of the Rain/Light Sensor (RLS) gel pad and the windscreen leaks out.
CORRECTION
Expose the Rain/Light Sensor (RLS) and properly clean the area of all oily residue.
Due to the small oil quantity in the gel pad, additional oil leakage is not plausible.
Leaking oil does not impair the function of the RLS.
PROCEDURE
- Expose the Rain/Light Sensor (RLS).NOTE: Replacing the RLS is NOT necessary and does NOT provide a solution.
- Disassemble the mirror end caps and/or the interior mirror according to repair instruction 51 16 063 "Disassemble and install interior mirror".
- Clean the area around the RLS and all contaminated components (windscreen, mirror, end caps) using suitable materials.
- Re-install all removed components.
WARRANTY INFORMATION
Covered under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty for Passenger Cars and Light Trucks.
