DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL FAILURE

DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL FAILURE

TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN

Reference Number(s): SI B34 03 17, Date of Issue:  April 2017
BMW: G12 (7 Series); G30 (5 Series Sedan); Vehicles produced through March 10 2017.
GROUP: Brakes

SITUATION

Instrument cluster indicates Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) failure.

You cannot establish communication with the DSC control unit.

Associated control units (DME, ACSM) register DSC-related communication time-outs.

After battery reset, DSC operates normally and has no faults registered.

CAUSE

Software in the DSC control module.

CORRECTION

Recode/reprogram the vehicle with ISTA NEXT 4.04.3 or higher

PROCEDURE

For conditions that are similar to the situation described:

  1. Perform diagnosis with the latest version of ISTA.
  2. Program the vehicle using ISTA/P 3.61.2 or ISTA NEXT 4.04.3 or higher
G12 (5 Series)  Target integration level: S15A-17-03-505 or higher
G30 (7 Series)

Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.

Always connect a BMW approved battery charger/power supply ( SI B04 23 10  ).

For information on programming and coding with ISTA/P, refer to CenterNet/TIS/Technical Documentation/Diagnostics and Programming/Programming Documentation.

Vehicle Programming and Coding

When ISTA/P automatically reprograms and codes all the vehicle's control modules that "currently do not have" the latest software and if one or more control module failures occur "during" this programming procedure:

  • Please claim this "consequential" control module-related repair work under the defect code listed in this bulletin with the applicable KSD2/AIR labor operations.

Other Repairs

Control module failures that occurred "prior" to performing this programming procedure:

  • When "covered" under an applicable limited warranty, claim this control module-related repair work using the applicable defect code and labor operations in KSD2/AIR.
