SERVICE INFORMATION
This Service Information Bulletin (Revision 2) replaces SI B17 04 20 dated October 2021 .
What's New:
- Model: The applicable engine variants specified
- Model: G32 (640i xDrive Gran Turismo) removed
- Parts Information and Claim Information sections updated
SITUATION
A new, additional coolant level check task is now linked to the second engine oil service (Service Counter 2 only). The scope of maintenance work will display in ISPA Next that applies to the high-temperature circuit.
This new coolant check only pertains to the above listed models with gasoline engines.
CAUSE
During the normal operation of the vehicle, there is a certain amount of coolant absorption by the various components/gaskets/seals contained within the coolant systems.
Over time, the coolant absorption can cause the coolant level to fall below the maximum fill level in the reservoir. In some cases, the level may even fall low enough to cause the high-temperature circuit low coolant level warning light to illuminate, along with displaying the corresponding Check Control message.
CORRECTION
The point of full saturation for these coolant system components is typically reached by the time the second engine oil service is due and performed (no further loss of coolant due to absorption).
Based on the above, check and top up the high and low-temperature circuits (both reservoirs) as necessary when the vehicle's second engine oil service (Service Counter 2) is being performed.
PROCEDURE
When the Coolant level check, linked with Engine oil is displayed and performed with the second engine oil service, then:
- Open the high and low temperature circuitsCAUTION: only after the engine has cooled down)
- Check the coolant levels, and as needed:
- Top up the cooling system with a 50/50 mix of coolant to the MAX level in the reservoirs and close the systems
- When all required maintenance services are completed, reset the CBS data
