HUMMING NOISE FROM DRIVELINE (G30 B46O)

SITUATION

There is a humming noise coming from the driveline at approximately 62 mph (100 KM/h).

CAUSE

Imbalance in the rear driveshaft flex disc (giubo).

CORRECTION

Check the installation of the rear flex (at rear differential) on the driveshaft and if necessary, replace the driveshaft.

PROCEDURE

Raise the vehicle to inspect the flex disc at the rear differential (1).

Check the location of the rubber burr on the body of the flexible disc.

A properly installed flex disc will have the burr closer to the front of the vehicle (1).

A flex disc installed incorrectly will have the burr closer to the rear differential (1).

If the replace the rear driveshaft if the flex disc is installed incorrectly following Repair Instruction 26 11 000 - Completely remove and install the propeller shaft.

NOTE: The driveshaft and rear flex disc are balanced as a complete unit (rear flex disc can't be replaced as a separate part).
