SITUATION

Hood lever is pulled twice but the hood only achieves the pre-latch position on one side while the other is still latched.

Downward pressure on the side of the hood that remains latched will release it to the pre-latch position.

After pre-latch position is achieved on both sides, the hood unlatch lever must be pulled again to achieve unlatched position.

CAUSE

Hood latch mechanical release is not operating properly.

Neither hood latch can be released to the fully open position until both have achieved the pre-latch position.

CORRECTION

Replace hood latch.

PROCEDURE

For conditions that are similar to the situation described:

Replace hood latch on the side that did not open to pre-latch position on first pull of the hood unlatch lever. Refer to repair instructions "51 23 100 - Removing and installing/replacing right engine compartment lid lock" or "51 23 110 Removing and installing/replacing left engine compartment lid lock".
