- Claim Information section updated
SITUATION
A vehicle arrives at your center to be diagnosed for a micro-leak in the fuel evaporative (EVAP) system (NVLD natural vacuum leak detection).
For this condition, the following fault is stored in the DME:
- 190302 - fuel tank ventilation and scavenging air system, micro-leak: leakage more than 0.5 mm
For:
- Model vehicles other that the ones listed above, or for
- EVAP faults related to a "large leak," after confirming that the fuel filler cap is fitted properly, then, proceed to follow the corresponding test plan
CAUSE
Micro-leaks have been detected in the EVAP system.
PROCEDURE
Use Micro-leak detector tool (B04 02 22) with the ISTA test plan:
ABL-DIT-AS1214_BX8_DHP_NVLD3-Natural Vacuum Leak Detection leakage test-V.3
Refer to Video V160122 for setting up and operating the NVLD test tool (if needed).
PARTS INFORMATION
When and as applicable, obtain and confirm the part numbers for your specific vehicle by entering the chassis number in either ETK or AIR which considers specific equipment and/or options.
| Part Number | Description | Quantity |
|---|---|---|
| Refer to ETK/AIR | Venting line with leak diagnosis module (NVLD) | 1 |
| Or/and: | ||
| Refer to ETK/AIR | Fuel tank breather valve | 1 |
| Or: | ||
| Refer to ETK/AIR | Fuel tank ventilation valve with pipe (1-4) | 1 |
| Or/and | ||
| Refer to ETK/AIR | Fuel tank ventilation valve with pipe (5-8) | 1 |
Additionally, other materials and small parts that are not specified above, such as fluids, lubricants, one-time use screws, nuts, and seals, which must be replaced or installed according to the ISTA repair instructions/ETK, must be selected from the Electronic Parts Catalog, or other approved BMW resources, according to the respective vehicle type. Invoiced these items separately under the corresponding Repair Code below that applies.
