The following fault code is stored in the DME:

The following fault code may also be stored with FC 194006:

CAUSE

Vacuum leak in fuel tank ventilation system or an internal failure (pressure switch) of the NVLD (Natural Vacuum Leak Detection)

CORRECTION

Possible sources of a leak that need to be repaired are:

PROCEDURE

For conditions that are similar to the situation described:

  1. Run the diagnosis with ISTA/Next and work through the corresponding test module, if necessary.
  2. Check fault memory entries.

Is 190302 Fuel tank ventilation system micro-leak: Leakage larger than 0.5 mm also stored?

    YES-  go to next step.

NO -  go to Step  9.

  3. Verify proper fuel filler cap installation.
  4. Using ISTA test plan, check for vehicle leaks (Leak detector BMW leak detector) and repair, if identified.
  5. Delete the fault memory.
  6. Reconnect the NVLD system, if necessary.
  7. Start the vehicle and allow to run for 10 minutes.
  8. Turn off engine and recheck fault memory.

Are both memory entries 194006 Tank leakage detection module, solenoid valve: jammed open and 190302 Fuel tank ventilation system micro-leak: Leakage larger than 0.5 mm still present?

    YES-  go to next step.

NO -  Go to Step  10.

  9. 9. Conduct NVLD acoustic check.

    Was "clacking" noise audible?

    YES-  go to next step.

NO -  replace the NVLD (part #16 13 7 373 623) according to repair instructions REP16 13 521 "Removing and installing/replacing pressure switch for Natural Vacuum Leak Detection (NVLD)".

  10. 10. Reprogram and encode the vehicle with ISTA Next 4.06.1x/ISTA/P 3.62.0 (I level S15A-17-07-500) or a more recent version.
