INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CANNOT BE PROGRAMMED WITH ISTA/P

SERVICE INFORMATION

What's New:

Vehicles equipped without option 6WB Multifunction instrument display, G30 vehicles must also be equipped with one of the following:

• 5AT Driving Assistant Plus
• 5DF Active cruise control with Stop & Go function (ACC)
• 601 TV function
• 609 Navigation system Professional
• 610 BMW Head-Up Display
• 6FS TV function analogue
• Plug-in Hybrid

Instrument Cluster (KOMBI) produced between 1/18/17 and 4/5/17.

• Control Unit production date can be located in ISTA via the menu item "Call up control unit functions" located in the "Identification" tab.

SITUATION

When programming the vehicle with ISTA/P the instrument cluster fails to program.

CAUSE

Missing ISTA/P software.

CORRECTION

Until the release of ISTA/P V3.62.0 (17-07-502) or ISTA4 4.06.1 you will need to program the KOMBI via IRAP

PROCEDURE

1. If experiencing difficulty programming the instrument cluster, perform a diagnosis using ISTA 4 and follow the corresponding test module(s).
2. Program the vehicle with ISTA/P 3.61.2.002 or ISTA 4.04.32 or higher
3. Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.
4. Always connect a BMW approved battery charger/power supply  (SI B04 23 10  ).
5. For information on programming and coding with ISTA/P, refer to CenterNet/TIS/Technical Documentation/Diagnostics and Programming/Programming Documentation.
6. After completion of the software update, submit a PuMA case titled "G30 Kombi IRAP"
7. Connect to the IRAP Next client immediately upon submitting the PuMA case
8. The IRAP specialist will respond when completed
9. (SI B09 02 16  ) includes further information on IRAP Next usage and functionality
10. After the IRAP session, program the KOMBI with ISTA/P or ISTA 4 and check the functionality of the instrument cluster

WARRANTY INFORMATION

Claimable with a repair that is covered under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty for Passenger Cars and Light Trucks or the BMW Certified Pre-Owned Program.

Claim with the repair and Defect Code that applies to the initial programming procedure

Labor Operation:	Labor Allowance:	Description:
61 00 006	Work time (WT)	Performing vehicle diagnosis - test module
And:
61 00 731	Refer to KSD2	Additional work after first termination while programming/encoding control unit(s)

Work time labor operation code 61 00 006 is not considered a Main labor operation; however, it does require an individual punch time and an explanation on the repair order and in the claim comments.
