SITUATION
The exterior lights of the vehicle are flashing on and off. The following fault code (FC) is stored:
0x80442A - Control unit Light (BEL), (LIN): Rotary switch defect
For this bulletin to apply, there MUST be a customer complaint for exterior lighting associated with the fault code. This fault code may be stored without any functional defect, in which case headlight switch replacement is not approved.
It is possible that this FC is stored due to minor fluctuations in vehicle voltage which do not affect lighting operation, in which case the headlight switch does not require replacement. Therefore, there must be a customer complaint associated with the exterior lighting.
CAUSE
A faulty headlight adjustment switch. Improvements to the headlight switch contacts were implemented in June 2019.
CORRECTION
If a customer complaint is associated with exterior lighting and FC 80442A is stored, perform the test plan and follow the test plan instructions.
PROCEDURE
- Perform a vehicle test using ISTA.
- If FC 80442A is stored along with a customer complaint, completely perform the functional test plan which is automatically called for this FC.
- Follow the recommendations of the test plan.
