SITUATION
An alternating "click-clack" noise is heard from the backrest area of the front seat when an occupant sits in the seat, or when the vehicle is cornering.
Due to the elimination of the NED (Non-Electrical Diagnosis) test plan for seat noise from ISTA, we are releasing this bulletin.
CAUSE
Seat backrest frame is touching the seat cover.
CORRECTION
Install felt tape.
PROCEDURE
If the noise matches the description of this bulletin, proceed as follows:
- Remove the rear panel from the rear of the front seat(s) per Repair Instructions 52 14 198 "Removing and installing rear panel on left or right seat backrest"
Check whether fleece has detached in the area shown.
Use 3 mm thick black felt tape from set P/N 51 45 2 353 004 and apply to the areas shown.
- Reinstall the rear panel of the front seat
- If the noise complaint exists in both front seats, repeat the above procedure for the second seat
- Test drive the vehicle and confirm the noise is gone
