SITUATION
To assist in diagnosing repairs related to the complaint "vibration when braking", BMW AG has developed a new axial runout measuring tool. This tool will NOT be autoshipped, and may be purchased directly through your Regional Distribution Center (RDC).

The Axial Runout Measuring Tool is used for cases where the customer complaint of:
- Steering wheel vibration when braking, caused by brake components of the front axle; is primarily felt through the steering wheel
- Vibration when braking, caused by brake components of the rear axle; is primarily felt through the vehicle body
- The tool can accurately measure brake disc and wheel hub/bearing axial runout
PROCEDURE
Setup:
- Measurement of the axial run-out of the inner brake disc with the wheel mounted, see attached video V04 01 24multimedia:A supplement to the article is available.
- Measurement of the axial run-out of the inner brake disc without the wheel mounted, see attached video V04 02 24multimedia:A supplement to the article is available.
- Measurement of the axial run-out of the outer brake disc without the wheel mounted, see attached video V04 03 24multimedia:A supplement to the article is available.
