Removing the radial shaft seal
WARNING:
Motor vehicle may slip off the vehicle hoist where components are supported.

- Secure the vehicle hoist against lowering and lifting.
Preliminary work
- Remove the left and right camber control arm COVER .
- Remove EXHAUST SYSTEM
- Remove the rear HEAT SHIELD .
- Release the rear axle differential PROPELLER SHAFT .
- Release the left and right rear axle differential OUTPUT SHAFT .
- Remove rear AXLE DIFFERENTIAL .
NOTE:
RISK OF DAMAGE
Damage to rear axle differential.
Failure to comply with the oil specifications can result in serious damage to the rear axle differential.

- After completion of repair work, check the transmission oil level in the rear axle differential.
- Use only the APPROVED FINAL DRIVE transmission differential fluid..

Radial shaft seal ring are equipped with an installation protection ring. The installation protection ring is used to protect the sealing lip when installing the output shaft.

- Version A:
Pull out and remove the radial shaft seal with special tools 0 490 466 (00 5 010) and 0 490 873 (11 2 350).
- Version B:
Prepare the special tool 0 490 466 (00 5 010) with the special tools 0 494 649 (21 2 230) (without the screw) and 0 493 384 (11 1 212) .
- Pull out and remove the radial shaft seal with special tools, 0 490 466 (00 5 010)
, 0 494 649 (21 2 230)
and 0 493 384 (11 1 212)
