Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Commercially available scale with a measuring exactness of up to ±1 gram.
Procedure
- The minimum permitted brake rotor weight "min.weight" is engraved in the brake rotor cup -4-.
-- Remove the brake rotor to weigh it. Refer to BRAKE ROTOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, CERAMIC BRAKES .
- Clean and dry the brake rotor before weighing it.
Health risk due to toxic dust from the brake system.
Irreversible deposit of dust particles in the lungs. Breathing may become impaired.
- Always wear a mouth and nose mask when cleaning the ceramic brake rotor.
Risk of inaccurate measurement results due to incorrect handling.
- Never clean the brake rotor with water or other fluids.
- The brake rotor vent holes must be free of dirt. It may be necessary to use a suitable tool to carefully clean the holes.
- Clean the brake rotors thoroughly with compressed air between the cooling channels and the vent holes.
-- Carefully lay the clean brake rotor on the scale.
- If the threshold plus 20 grams is reached, then determine the brake wear by checking the wear indicators. Refer to WEAR INDICATORS, CHECKING .
Risk of accident due to insufficient braking action on worn ceramic brake rotors.
Reusing ceramic brake rotors that have reached the wear limit is not permitted.
- Immediately replace the ceramic brake rotors once they have reached one of the wear limits defined below.
Risk of accident due to uneven braking.
- If a brake rotor is damaged or worn, check the other brake rotors for damage and wear.
