Transmission Fluid, Draining And Filling
The 7-speed dual-clutch transmission is equipped with an ATF and MTF chamber.
The ATF is located in the blue section of the transmission and is drained through the ATF drain plug -1- and filled through the ATF filler plug -2-. Refer to ATF .
The MTF is located in the green section of the transmission fluid and is drained by removing the MTF pump -4- and is filled through the MTF check plug -3-. Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID, DRAINING AND FILLING .
The bolt on the gear set -arrow- is not a drain plug.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit: SMN372500
- Pressurized Gearbox Oil Filler Kit: VAS6617
- Torx Socket - T60: T40087
- Protective Eyewear
Draining
The S tronic transmission does not have any drain plug for the transmission fluid system. To drain the transmission fluid, the transmission fluid pump must be removed.
General repair instructions. Refer to REPAIR INFORMATION .
Guidelines for clean working conditions. Refer to GUIDELINES FOR CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS .
- Transmission fluid temperature at approximately 20 °C (68 °F) (room temperature).
- Move vehicle onto a four-pillar workshop hoist or over a work pit so that it is absolutely horizontal.
-- Remove the rear noise insulation. Refer to NOISE INSULATION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Equipped on some models: remove the bolts -arrows- and nut -2-.
-- Remove the end panel -1- for the crossbrace.
-- Place the Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit: SMN372500 underneath.
Danger of eye injury.
- Wear protective eyewear.
Risk of electrical corrosion.
- There must not be any transmission fluid (MTF) in the connector area.
- Do NOT disconnect the connector -2-.
When removing the oil pump, the transmission drains abruptly.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the oil pump -1- and secure with wire so that it does not fall.
-- Drain the transmission fluid (MTF).
Risk of damaging the transmission.
Without any or with too little manual transmission fluid (MTF) inside the transmission:
- Do not start the engine.
- Do not tow the vehicle.
-- Install the oil pump. Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID PUMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Filling
Danger of eye injury.
- Wear protective eyewear.
Risk of damaging the transmission.
- Only use the specified transmission fluid (MTF) in the parts list for the dual-clutch transmission 0CJ, 0CK, 0CL, 0DN, 0DP.
- Using other fluids can cause malfunctions or transmission failure.
- Note the allocation. Refer to the Parts Information.
- The Pressurized Gearbox Oil Filler Kit: VAS6617 must be clean and the ATF must not be mixed with another fluids! If necessary, flush the hand pump with transmission fluid.
-- Remove the plug -arrow- for the right inspection and fill hole on the transmission housing with the Torx Socket - T60: T40087 .
-- Use the Pressurized Gearbox Oil Filler Kit: VAS6617 to slowly add the transmission fluid.
- Transmission fluid (MTF) specification. Refer to the Parts Information.
-- Repeat the procedure gradually every 15 seconds, until the transmission fluid is 2 mm under the lower edge of the inspection and fill hole.
It is important to follow the waiting period to make sure the various oil spaces in the transmission are filled equally.
-- Tighten the plug.
Further installation is performed in reverse order of the removal.
