Valve Stem Seals, Removing And Installing, Cylinder Head Installed: Installing

-- Lightly oil the valve stem seal sealing lip.

-- Insert the valve stem seal into the seal installer -5- and carefully press it all the way onto the valve guide -1- over the Mounting Sleeve.

-- Remove the Assembly Tool.

If the valve retainers were removed from the assembly cartridge, they must be inserted into the Valve Cotter Tool Kit - Valve Insertion Device: VAS5161/18  first.

-- Press the assembly cartridge from above onto valve retainer inserting tool and valve retainers.

-- Insert the valve spring and the valve spring retainer. Refer to Figure.

-- Attach the Valve Cotter Tool Kit - Guide Plate: VAS5161/44  onto the cylinder head again.

-- Insert the assembly cartridge into the guide plate.

-- Press the pressure fork down and pull the knurled bolt up while turning left and right. This inserts the valve retainers.

-- Release the pressure fork with the knurled bolt still raised.

-- Repeat the procedure on each valve.

Assembling 

Assemble in the reverse order of removal. Note the following:

-- Install the camshafts. Refer to CAMSHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the spark plugs. Refer to OVERVIEW - IGNITION SYSTEM .

CAUTION:

Risk of damaging the valves and piston crowns by performing procedures on the valvetrain.

- Only start the engine 30 minutes after installation of the camshaft so that they do not contact the hydraulic lifters.

- To ensure valves do not strike pistons when starting, carefully rotate the crankshaft at least two turns.
