Drive Axle Bearing, Replacing
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Press Piece - Multiple Use: VW412
- Puller - Crankshaft/Power Steering Seal: T20143
- Pressure Stand: T40099
- Press Tube: 41-501
- Bearing Installer - Ball Joint/Bushing/Bearing: VW459-2
- Press Piece - Trailing Arm: 2010
-- Pry out the shaft seal -arrow- carefully with the Puller - Crankshaft/Power Steering Seal: T20143 .
-- Remove the circlips -1- and -2-.
-- Remove the dual clutch and place it in the Pressure Stand: T40099 -2-. Refer to DUAL CLUTCH, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Carefully press out of the input shaft -1- as shown and at the same time support on the output shaft -3-.
-- Press out of the clutch cover -2- bearing A -3- using the Press Tube: 41-501 -1- use the Bearing Installer - Ball Joint/Bushing/Bearing: VW459-2 -4- to support.
- If the bearing can be pressed out without resistance (overlap), the clutch cover must be replaced. Refer to CLUTCH COVER, REPLACING .
Installing
- Pay attention to the installation position of bearing A: the bearing cage -2- from bearing A -1- points in the direction of the input shaft.
-- Press in bearing A -2- carefully all the way in the clutch cover -3- using the Press Piece - Trailing Arm: 2010 -1-.
- Pay attention to the installation position of the engaging bearing: the rounded side -1- points to the clutch cover, the inner race -2- points to the clutch.
-- Press in the clutch cover -2- all the way on the clutch -3- using the Press Tube: 41-501 -1-.
-- Install the circlip -1- and -2-.
-- Install the clutch. Refer to DUAL CLUTCH, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Place the Assembly Sleeve: T40308 on the drive axle.
-- Drive in the new seal with the Thrust Piece: T50038 in the clutch housing until it stops.
