Knee Airbag With Igniter, Removing And Installing, Driver Side: Removing

- Pay attention to the safety precautions when working with pyrotechnic components. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WHEN WORKING WITH PYROTECHNIC COMPONENTS .
- Observe the disposal regulations for pyrotechnic components. Refer to AIRBAG, BELT TENSIONER AND BATTERY CUT-OUT UNITS, STORING, TRANSPORTING AND DISPOSING (PYROTECHNIC COMPONENTS) .
-- Move the steering wheel as far up and backward as possible to be able to use the entire steering column adjustment range.
-- Disconnect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
-- Remove the instrument panel cover on the driver side. Refer to DRIVER SIDE INSTRUMENT PANEL COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the bolts -arrows 1 to 4-.
-- Carefully remove the knee airbag with the brackets, until the connector can be disconnected.
Risk of injury due to involuntary deployment.
- Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". For example, this can be done by briefly touching the door striker.
-- To do so, release the connector lock -2- with a small screwdriver -arrow- and disconnect the connector -1-.
Bracket, Removing:
-- Place the knee airbag on a soft surface with the collision cushion facing upward.
-- Remove the nuts -arrows-.
-- Remove the bracket -1 and 2-.
Risk of injury due to involuntary deployment.
- Lay the airbag so that the collision cushion faces upward.
