Needle Bearing In Drive Plate, Replacing

Only available with the manual transmission a needle bearing is installed in the drive plate.

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

• Press Piece - 31.5mm: VW418A

• Pneumatic hydraulic press, for example : VAS6654  , not illustrated

Procedure

• The transmission is removed. Refer to TRANSMISSION, REMOVING .

-- Remove the drive plate. Refer to DRIVE PLATE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Place the Bearing Installer - Multiple Use: 40-103  under the drive plate to remove and install.

-- Press out the needle bearing using the Press Piece - 28x100mm: VW421  and workshop press.

• The thinner diameter of the Press Piece - 28x100mm: VW421  points towards the drive plate.

-- Carefully press the needle bearing in all the way using the Press Piece - 31.5mm: VW418A  and workshop press.

• Installation position: the closed side of the needle bearing faces the engine.

-- Install the drive plate. Refer to DRIVE PLATE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
