Sunroof Frame, Removing And Installing, A5 SPORTBACK: Removing

-- Remove the glass trim. Refer to GLASS TRIM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the headliner and place on the seats. Refer to HEADLINER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Disconnect the connector -1- from the power sunroof control module -2-.

-- Remove the bolts -2-.

-- Loosen the bolts -1 and 3- three turns.

TIP:

If there is difficulty cutting through the adhesive bead, heat up the sunroof frame in this area using the :VAS1978/14A  . Protect adjacent components from the temperature effects during this and note their permitted temperatures.

-- Cut free the front edge of the sunroof frame -arrows- using the :VAG1561A  and the:VAG1561/28  ; at the same time, pay attention that the paint is not damaged.

-- Cut free the front section of the sunroof frame -arrow- on the left and right side at the front and at the inside using the :VAG1561A  and the :VAG1561/29  .

-- Guide the :VAG1561A  using the :VAG1561/29  in the opening behind the sunroof frame and cut free the corners of the sunroof frame -arrow- on the left and right toward the inside.

-- Guide the :VAS861001/1A  using the front piercing awl -1- in the gap between the roof crossmember and sunroof frame in direction of -arrow-.

-- Pull the separation cut in the gap between the roof crossmember and sunroof frame to the left.

-- On the inside of the roof, guide the :VAS861001/1A  along the roof pillar toward the rear.

-- On inside of the roof on the left rear side, guide the :VAS861001/1A  behind both bolts -arrows- for the sunroof frame.

-- On the inside of the roof at the rear, guide the :VAS861001/1A  from the right to the left side of the vehicle.

• Pay attention that the separation cut is guided behind the centering pin -arrow-.

-- Place the separation cut the same along the left and the right side of the roof pillar toward the front.

-- On the right rear side of the roof on the inside, guide the :VAS861001/1A  behind both bolts -arrows- for the sunroof frame.

-- On the inside of the roof, guide the :VAS861001/1A  along the roof pillar toward the front.

-- Secure the :VAG1344  on the left side of the windshield.

-- Guide the left end of the :VAS861001/1A  using the trim wedge -1- out of the :VAS861001A  and secure on the :VAG1344  .

-- Guide the :VAS861001/1A  on the right side over the windshield between the roof crossmember and sunroof frame outward.

-- Place the right end of the right cutting cord around the sunroof frame and place in the gap between the right roof pillar and the sunroof frame -arrows-.

-- Secure the removal device with the reel device -3- in the right upper edge of the rear window.

-- Bond the reinforced adhesive tape -2- between the sunroof opening and rear window on the roof edge.

-- Insert the :VAS861001/1A  in the reel device -1-.

-- Tension the cutting cord with the reel device -1-.

TIP:

If there is difficulty cutting through the adhesive bead, heat up the sunroof frame in this area using the :VAS1978/14A  . Protect adjacent components from the temperature effects during this and note their permitted temperatures.

-- Place the cutting guard -3 and 4- from the :VAS861001A  on the edge and surface of the roof to protect the paint.

-- Cut free the right side of the sunroof frame.

TIP:

While cutting a second technician must guide the cutting cord on the inside of the roof so that it does not get caught.

-- Left: turn the mount -3- clockwise in direction of -arrow A- and remove with the water drain hose -2- still connected in direction of -arrow B-.

-- Free up the water drain hose on the clip -1-.

-- Insert the M10 bolt -1- as a joint for the cutting cord in the water drain hole and slide a washer below and secure a nut with four turns.

-- Guide the :VAS861001/1A  over the joint to the left front side.

-- Secure the removal device using the reel device -1- at the left on the windshield.

-- Insert the :VAS861001/1A  in the reel device on the removal device -1-.

-- For better guidance, the :VAS861001/1A  from the :VAS861001A  must be guided over the trim molding -1-.

-- Tension the cutting cord with the reel device.

-- Cut free the rear of the sunroof frame.

-- Remove the M10 bolt.

-- To cut out the left side of the sunroof frame, place the :VAS861001/1A  sideways in the gap between the left roof pillar and the sunroof frame and guide forward.

-- Cut free the left side of the sunroof frame.

-- Remove the sunroof frame upward.
