CONDITION
Customer states:
- The parking assist intermittently alerts them to an obstruction in spite of there being no object in front of the vehicle.
- They may also state that one or more of the park assist sensors in the front grille appear to be 'pushed in' (Figure 1).
TECHNICAL BACKGROUND
The electronic central electrical (BCM) control module, J519 (address word 0009) may have one or more DTCs stored that indicate a technical issue with either the front or rear park assistance system. The park assistance sensor holder is found to be de-bonded from the component to which it was attached (front bumper, rear bumper, front grille, etc.).
PRODUCTION SOLUTION
Not applicable.
Service
Scenario 1:
- In some cases a replacement sensor holder is available as well as a technical description for its reattachment to the component. In these cases repairs can proceed as directed in the repair manual.
Scenario 2:
- In cases where the sensor holder is not available separately, then replace the entire component.
- In these cases be sure to retain the park assistance sensor holder(s) that have come loose.
WPRC Instructions:
- The park assistance sensor holder(s) will be required to accompany the component from which it has de-bonded when the component is requested by the WPRC for part submission (Figures 2 and 3).
- Attach the sensor holder(s) to the component securely marking the position from which they were mounted.
