CONDITION
Customer states:
- Driving issues such as juddering.
and/or
- Starting problems; the engine starts with a delay.
and/or
- The exhaust emissions warning lamp lights up in the instrument cluster.
and/or
- The EPC (electronic throttle) warning lamp lights up in the instrument cluster.
Workshop findings:
- During diagnosis or repair work, it is suspected due to the complaint/damage found that the wrong type of fuel has been added (diesel detected in gasoline).
TECHNICAL BACKGROUND 1
To find out whether the wrong type of fuel has been added, proceed as follows:
Take a paper towel (if possible, use commercially available blotting paper); add a few drops of:
- Diesel (1)
- Fuel from the vehicle (2)
- Gasoline (3)
- Then let the fuel evaporate and assess whether it is petrol or petrol and diesel mixture. If it is a mixture of petrol and diesel, the fuel tank must be discharged, and the fuel lines/system must be cleaned thoroughly.
PRODUCTION SOLUTION
Not applicable.
SERVICE
If the wrong type of fuel has been added to the tank, this is not a fault that is covered under warranty. Any expenses for this repair work must be covered by the customer.
