CONDITION
Customer states:
Noises when braking.
Workshop findings:
Noises are generated at the front and/or rear brakes when braking.
The brake pad thickness is OK and there is no further TSB on this topic .
TECHNICAL BACKGROUND
There are different causes related to brake noises.
They are often related to contamination with brake dust, rust, road grit, or other external influences.
These noises are more likely to occur due to low mileage, only driving short distances, and very light braking application which does not enable cleaning of the brake to be performed sufficiently or optimum friction to be built up on the friction faces.
On new vehicles and low-mileage vehicles, noises may also occur as the friction faces must first bed in properly in relation to each other in order to generate an optimum friction value. It is difficult to determine a specific mileage that is required to do this, as this depends heavily on the driving profile.
Glazed friction surfaces on the brake pads also lead to noises. This phenomenon indicates a strong or excessive thermal load.

SERVICE
It is important that the brakes are bedded in adequately using a driving style suited to the traffic conditions, and that they are braked clean at regular intervals. There is also information on this topic in the Owner's Manual. It may be advisable to inform the customer about this.
In the event of glazed or very dirty friction surfaces on the pads, the friction surface can be worked on/cleaned using workshop materials (e.g. Sandpaper; Brake cleaning) and the brake should then be bedded in again.
It is not necessary to replace parts.
