Customer states:
- It is found during PDI or any other diagnostic work.
Workshop findings:
- The passenger occupant detection system (PODS) sensor mat, G554, and/or the PODS control module, J706 (address word 0015), need to be replaced.
- A PODS repair kit consisting of PODS sensor mat and PODS control module is not available.
TECHNICAL BACKGROUND
On models equipped with the latest generation of the PODS system (BodySense3), the PODS sensor mat, integrated in the seat heater, and the PODS control module no longer need to be replaced as a kit. Instead, they can be replaced individually as needed.
At this time, the repair instructions in ElsaPro incorrectly insists on the installation of PODS Kits and prohibit the replacement of individual components. The repair manuals are currently under revision to allow and instruct for individual parts replacement. In the meantime, it is permissible to deviate from ElsaPro for models without PODS kits by ordering and replacing PODS components individually.
This does not affect the function of the airbag system.

SERVICE
PODS Kit availability for BodySense3 equipped vehicles depends on model and model year.
In ETKA, PODS components are listed individually if a PODS Kit is not offered (Figure 4).
