CONDITION
Customer states:
The customer reports a windshield washer system that is inoperative and/or a windshield washer solvent leak.
Workshop findings:
One or more of the following DTCs are stored in the Control Module BCM, J519 (address word 0009). They may be either static or sporadic:
- B126101: Windshield washer pump electrical error.
- B126111: Windshield washer pump Short circuit to Ground (GND).
- B126113: Windshield washer pump Open circuit.
Either symptom is easily reproduced.
TECHNICAL BACKGROUND
If the window washer pump becomes blocked due to frozen washer fluid, the resistance in the pump exceeds the upper limit. As a result, one or more of the DTCs above may be stored in the Control Module BCM, J519 (address word 0009).
PRODUCTION SOLUTION
A production solution is in development.
SERVICE
Additional information concerning the nature and root cause of this pump failure is necessary in order to proceed in the fault-solving process. The following directions will aid in finding the root cause.
- Perform a functionality check of the windshield washer pump. If it is inoperative, check for any of the diagnostic entries specified in this TSB in the BCM (DA 0009). If one or more of the above DTCs are stored, a hard reset may be necessary in the BCM before these DTCs can be erased. Once erased, perform a functional check of the windshield washer pump once again. Should any of the DTCs return and the windshield washer pump continues to be inoperative after a functionality check, complete the ODIS test plan in its entirety. Proceed as directed by the test plan.
- Check the type and composition of the windshield washer solvent currently in the reservoir. Refer to TSB 2038151 92 Washer solvent level warning is on
for the correct type and concentration of the washer solvent. A freezing event may have occurred and caused damage to the windshield washer pump due to the addition of solvent with insufficient freeze protection. If the washer solvent currently in the reservoir does not conform to these specifications, please report the type and concentration of the currently installed washer solvent in the claim comments. If the type and concentration of the windshield washer solvent is incorrect, the reservoir must be emptied of its contents and the solvent replaced with the correct type and concentration, as specified. Counsel our customer on the washer solvent being used and stress that the incorrect type and concentration will damage the washer system components.NOTE: An inoperative windshield washer pump may not be replaced until a GFF test plan has been completed in its entirety for the DTCs that recur, directed by the test plan to replace the windshield washer pump, and the completed test plan uploaded to GFF Paperless
- In cases where no DTCs are stored in the BCM but the windshield washer pump is visibly leaking, the pump may be replaced without the need for a test plan. Take a photo showing the leak in the pump and post it to DOC-IT.
