Parking Lock, Removing And Installing: Notes

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Removing

• Gear set removed. Refer to TRANSMISSION, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING .
• Slide off the output gear of the spur gear unit from the pinion. Refer to Fig 5.
• Vehicles with self-locking center differential: removing the roller bearing with inner output shaft. Refer to Inner Output Shaft Roller Bearing, Removing, Vehicles with Self-Locking Center Differential .
• Detach the parking lock gear. Refer to Fig 6.

Parking lock 2, removing

-- Remove the bolts -1-.

-- In the sleeve -1- of the parking lock -2- cut through the M10 threads.

-- Install the Slide Hammer Set :VW771  -1- in the threads of the sleeve -3-.

-- Drive out both sleeves -3- together with the parking lock -2-.

Parking lock 3, installing

-- Drive the parking lock -3- in the clutch housing. At the same time drive in the sleeves -2- alternating from side to side using the Valve Guide/Clutch Release Push Rod Seal Drift :10-206  -1- to the dimension -a-.

Dimension -a- = approximately 1.8 mm

Drive in the center sleeve -arrow- flush with the parking lock -3-.

• Pay attention to and if necessary hold the spring for the parking lock lever when driving in.

-- Tighten the bolts -1- for the parking lock -2-.
