Differential, Removing And Installing: Removing
- Remove the transmission. Refer to TRANSMISSION, REMOVING .
- The transmission is secured on the Gearbox Support: T40173 with the tensioning strap -1-.
-- Tilt the transmission using the Gearbox Support: T40173 toward the rear and slightly left so that no transmission fluid flows out.
-- Place the Shop Crane - Drip Tray: VAS 6208 under the transmission.
-- Remove the right flange shaft. Refer to RIGHT FLANGE SHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the final drive cover -1-.
CAUTION:
Danger of causing damage to the differential.
- Slowly and carefully remove final drive cover from transmission housing. Otherwise differential can fall out of transmission.
- A differential that has fallen out can no longer be installed.
-- Carefully remove the final drive cover. At the same time some transmission fluid will drain out.
-- Carefully remove the differential -1- and lay it on a soft support.
-- While doing so, do not lift the differential at the angular contact ball bearing cage -2-, but rather grab inside the hole -arrow- for the right flange shaft.
- If the left outer race/tapered roller bearing for the differential is being replaced, the left flange shaft must be removed beforehand. Refer to LEFT FLANGE SHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
