RIGHT SEAL, REPLACING, FINAL DRIVE 09R "quattro ultra"
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Puller - Unit Injector: T10055
- Assembly Tool: T10356/2
- Seal Installer - LH Flange Shaft Seal: 3384
- Thrust Piece: T10233
- Circlip Pliers: VAS 5503A
- -1- Internal Puller: VAS 251 613
- -4- Counter Support: VAS 251 623
- Sealing Grease: G 052 128 A1
- The rear final drive is removed. Refer to FINAL DRIVE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Follow all general repair information. Refer to REPAIR INFORMATION .
-- Drive a hole centered into the cap -1- and pry out with a screwdriver.
-- Remove the circlip -2- using the Circlip Pliers: VAS 5503A .
-- Remove the shim -3-.
-- Remove the right flange shaft using the Puller - Unit Injector: T10055 .
-- Pry out the shaft seal -A- using the Puller - Crankshaft/Power Steering Seal: T20143/2 .
Installing
-- Coat outer edge of the seal with gear oil.
-- Fill the space between the sealing/dust lip halfway with Sealing Grease: G 052 128 A1 .
-- Install the new shaft seal to the >>installed dimension<< using the Assembly Tool: T10356/2 -2- and Seal Installer - LH Flange Shaft Seal: 3384 -1- ; do not tilt the shaft seal while doing so.
- Installed dimension: 7 mm ± 0.2 under housing outer edge
-- Push on the flange shaft.
-- Mount the shim -3-.
-- Install the new circlip -2-, being careful not to stretch it.
Tip:
The circlip -2- can only be inserted into the stub shaft groove when the flange shaft is pretensioned.
-- Insert the Internal Puller -B- into the stub shaft -2- and slightly tension it.
-- Attach the Counter Support -A-.
-- Pretension the flange shaft -1- by tightening the nut -C- slightly.
-- Using two screwdrivers, now press on the shim -1- and at the same time, push the circlip -2- into the stub shaft groove.
Tip:
The circlip -2- may be driven in by lightly tapping with a hammer until the dimension -x- is reached.
- Dimension -x- may be a maximum of 6 mm.
-- Drive in the new cap with the Thrust Piece: T10233 all the way.
-- Install the rear final drive. Refer to REAR FINAL DRIVE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, AUDI A4, A5 .
-- Check the rear final drive gear oil. Refer to GEAR OIL, CHECKING LEVEL .
