Brake Caliper, Removing And Installing, Steel Brakes 1LA/1LB: Removing
-- Remove the front wheel. Refer to WHEEL, CHANGING .
-- Disconnect the connector -2-.
-- Release the tab in direction of -arrow A- and turn 90° in direction of -arrow B- at the same time. Then remove and free up the brake pad wear sensor -1- from the bracket.
TIP:
Pushing the brake pad -2- slightly into the brake caliper using suitable pliers -1- makes it easier to remove the brake caliper from the brake rotor. To prevent damage to the paint coat on the brake caliper, place a piece of rubber -3- between the pliers and the brake caliper. (Shown on a different brake caliper)
There is a risk of damaging the brake hose due to the weight of the brake caliper.
- Never let the brake caliper hang on the brake hose.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows-.
-- Carefully remove the brake caliper -1- with the brake carrier and installed brake pads from the brake rotor; pay attention to the brake hose while doing so.
-- Hang the brake caliper using a suitable wire.
There is a risk of damaging the brake caliper pistons if handled incorrectly.
- Never operate the brakes when the brake caliper is removed.
