Brake Caliper, Removing And Installing, Steel Brakes 1LC/1LD/1LE/1LF/1LG/1LH: Removing
-- Remove the front wheel. Refer to WHEEL, CHANGING .
-- Disconnect the connector -2- and free up the wiring harness at the bracket.
-- If the brake pads or the brake pad wear sensor -1- should be removed, release the tab in direction of -arrow A- and turn it 90° in direction of -arrow B- at the same time. Remove the brake pad wear sensor from the bracket and free it up at the protective cap.
TIP:
Pushing the brake pad -2- slightly into the brake caliper using suitable pliers -1- makes it easier to remove the brake caliper from the brake rotor. To prevent damage to the paint coat on the brake caliper, place a piece of rubber -3- between the pliers and the brake caliper. (Shown on a different brake caliper)
There is a risk of damaging the brake hose due to the weight of the brake caliper.
- Never let the brake caliper hang on the brake hose.
-- Remove the bolts -4 and arrows-.
-- Carefully remove the brake caliper -1- with the bracket -3- and installed brake pads from the brake rotor; pay attention to the brake hose while doing so.
-- Hang the brake caliper using a suitable wire.
There is a risk of damaging the brake caliper pistons if handled incorrectly.
- Never operate the brakes when the brake caliper is removed.
