Brake Caliper, Removing And Installing, Steel Brakes 1LJ/1LL/1LM/1LX/1LY/1LZ/1ZA/1ZC/1ZK/1ZX: Removing

-- Remove the front wheel. Refer to WHEEL, CHANGING .

-- Disconnect the connector -2- and free up the wiring harness at the bracket.

-- If the brake pads should be removed, release the tab in direction of -arrow A- and turn it 90° in direction of -arrow B- at the same time. Remove the brake pad wear sensor from the bracket and free it up at the protective cap.

-- Remove the bolts -2- for the bracket -3-.

Pushing the brake pads -3- slightly into the brake caliper using suitable pliers -1- makes it easier to remove the brake caliper from the brake rotor. To prevent damage to the paint coat on the brake caliper, place a piece of rubber -2- between the pliers and brake caliper.

CAUTION:

Improper handling increases the risk of destroying the brake caliper.

- Never loosen the brake caliper/brake carrier bolts.

-- Do not loosen the brake caliper/brake carrier threaded connection. Refer to Figure.

-- Remove the bolts -2-.

-- Carefully remove the brake caliper -1- with the installed brake pads from the brake rotor; pay attention to the brake hose while doing so.

CAUTION:

There is a risk of damaging the brake hose due to the weight of the brake caliper.

- Never let the brake caliper hang on the brake hose.

-- Hang the brake caliper using a suitable wire.

CAUTION:

There is a risk of damaging the brake caliper pistons if handled incorrectly.

- Never operate the brakes when the brake caliper is removed.
